Xiaomi Announces the Mi TV 2

The Xiaomi event earlier today was not only about its first-ever tablet, the Mi Pad. The Chinese company also announced the Mi TV 2, a new smart TV that again promises to shake pricing conventions. Let’s get this out of the way: for a retail price of 3999 Yuan (about RM2070), you get a smart TV that sports a 49-inch 4K (3840 x 2160) display, made by LG Display. The frame itself is a mere 15.5mm thick, while the bezel is kept to a sensationally thin 6.2mm. Nope, we didn’t miss an extra “9″ at the end of 3999. Considering that TV giants such as Samsung, LG and Sony price their 4K TVs well into the five digit mark in Malaysia, RM2070 for a 4K TV is…nowhere near the impact the Mi 3 has on flagship smartphones. What else is packed into the Mi TV 2? There’s a MStar 1.45GHz quad-core processor, Mali450-MP4 GPU and 2GB of RAM. There’s also 8GB of eMMC storage. Powering the Mi TV 2′s software is MIUI TV, which as based on Android. On top of that, the Mi TV 2′s Bluetooth remote also features voice search, where users can search for TV shows and movies. And, should you ever accidentally lose your remote, the Mi TV 2 also has a function to remotely locate your remote control. Each Mi TV 2 also comes bundled with an 8-speaker sound bar and a 120W subwoofer – both of which are wirelessly connected via Bluetooth. Excited ? Throwing money to the screen at this moment? Here’s where it could be very disappointing for those of you outside of China wanting to get the Mi TV 2. There’s no word whether it will be available outside of China, and Xiaomi remains coy about it on its social media pages.
