Samsung SM-G906 Listed in Korea

Back before the Galaxy S5 was announced, rumours were rife that Samsung were going to include a 2K display (2560 x 1440) resolution display into its flagship smartphone. Evidently, that didn’t happen – but that didn’t stop the rumours from dying out. In the original rumour’s place is a new one: Samsung was readying a variant of the Galaxy S5 called the Galaxy S5 Prime, featuring even more powerful hardware. And it looks like it’s one step closer to being true. A listing for the Galaxy S5 LTE-A has appeared on a Hong Kong-based price directory, featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset, 3GB RAM and yes, a 2560 x 1440 resolution display. However, there aren’t too many details which were revealed, such as the processor clock speed – but the rest of the specs remain the same the flagship Galaxy S5. The model number of this variant is said to be SM-G906, and like the Galaxy S4 LTE-A before it, is set to be a South Korea-only release. The three South Korean telcos will each have a variant of its own, with the model numbers SM-G906S, SM-G906K and SM-G906L for SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus respectively. One other rumour circulating the Galaxy S5 Prime was that it will finally ditch the plastic cover for a premium metal finish. Unfortunately that is still up in the air, as the listing’s image does not indicate that is the case. It is still unclear when this variant will be released in its native South Korea, and a global release is also unknown. But, judging from the Galaxy S4 LTE-A which eventually made its way to some countries in Europe, there is hope for a global release.
